The impressions of our 1st design in
2003 started the day the soil was tilled. The center and winding paths
made the magic of the garden work.
The full story of how this design emerged can be found
on How It Happened.
Note that the dimensions are
approximately 80 feet (>24
Meters) on each side (almost square). This "map" was intended
to be a scale rendering, but time constraints forced us to accept a
reasonable approximation. The extra space between the 2 vertical rows
on the east and west sides and their next row inward, was to allow
for a cage of netting to protect the berries from birds.
We will decide later, if that will be necessary. Time and money limited
us this year.
The sides of the fencing got cut off this version of the
drawing. The fence is shown only for east-west directions (left to right
as shown here). The north-south fences were cut off by the copy process.
The fence was built by Joe Bullock of the world-famous Bullock
Permaculture Homestead in Deer Harbor. He did a fine job of helping
us purchase the large cedar fence posts which were acquired from hop
orchards in eastern Washington.
